What is the role of the six-point rule of welding fixture in machining?

2023/08/30

In the process of machining, the positioning problem of the workpiece is often encountered, which has a great relationship with the machining accuracy of the workpiece. The problem of workpiece positioning is a relatively complicated process, and it is not clear in a word or two. So, how to solve the problem of workpiece positioning? The following small series to give you the popularity of the welding fixture in the machining of the "six points".

As we all know, the space of any free body has six degrees of freedom, that is, giving free space three axes: X, Y, Z. Three degrees of freedom of movement along the three coordinate axes and three degrees of freedom of rotation around the three coordinate axes.

When the workpiece is installed, the six supporting points reasonably distributed on the machine table or welding fixture are in contact with the positioning reference of the workpiece, and the six degrees of freedom of the workpiece are all limited, so that the workpiece can obtain a completely determined position. This restriction method is called the "six-point norm". The essence of workpiece positioning is to limit the degree of freedom of the workpiece.

The "six-point rule" is the basic rule of workpiece positioning. In actual production operations, positioning elements are needed to ensure the positioning of the processed workpiece, that is, clamping devices usually used. These clamping devices are geometric bodies with certain shapes that support the workpiece, that is, the positioning elements of the workpiece.

In the process of processing, some workpieces need to be completely positioned, that is, the six degrees of freedom are completely limited. Some workpieces do not need to be completely positioned, only a few free positioning can be completed processing, which is not completely positioned. So how many degrees of freedom and which degrees of freedom should be restricted should be determined by the requirements of the workpiece processing process. For example, when turning a slender shaft, the workpiece is clamped between two parts. In addition to the degree of freedom of rotation around its axis, the remaining five degrees of freedom have been limited.

On the premise of meeting the requirements of the processed workpiece, incomplete positioning can be adopted, but according to the processing requirements, the degree of freedom that should be limited without restriction is not allowed, and it must not guarantee the completion of the processing process, nor can it guarantee the processing requirements.
